    Vavuum advance line

What is the correct configuration of the vacuum advance line for a 68 BB with the four barrel? The JM (p.56) makes the 390HP 427 sound just like the Small Block. Is it the same steel line with rubber at each end and the orange clip as for the 327? The 390 big block is not listed in paragon but the small block hardware is. I presently have just a single rubber line running from distrib. to carb.

    Dale,

The JM on page 56 has it correct. The 2 rubber hoses should have a white line on them and has a black spring clip holding it on to the vacuum advance. The metal line in the middle is held by an orange painted clip for the 427 / 390 hp motor.

        Dale,

I would suggest you check Dr. Rebuild's catalogue. It is on line as well. He has drawings of the steel vacuum line applications.

I believe the JM is incorrect when it comes to the spring clip. My original 427/390 car has the correct clip, which I understand from Dave Walters is very hard to come by, but it was black. We read the JM, but Dave said it definitely was not/should not be orange. It has since been redone in black oxide.

            Dennis,

Please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding your source but who is Dave Walters? He does not show up on a search of the members list on the TDB. Remember we are talking about a '68 427/390, not the higher hp.

I guess Dave doesn't spend his time on the TDB..he has written articles for the Driveline though. I am sure many NCRS old timers know him. I just know he has made his living working on Corvettes, owns a couple of L88s and has a warehouse full of parts & fasteners.

I said I have a '69 427/390 car, which was in original unrestored condition when I bought it 5 years ago. Dave told me that he has never seen that clip to be orange on a '69. Maybe it was on the '68 or even the '67 L36, but I didn't ask him.
