Is there a NCRS type org for Camaros ?

I know this isn't specifically Corvette related but I have seen other cars occasionally mentioned so I hope no one is offended.

A friend of mine has a 68 Camaro that he has owned since he was 14 years old and that was over 30 years ago. He is planning to restore this car and I told him I would check into how developed the restoration resources are compared to the NCRS.

Are there NCRS type organizations and documentation like our JM's available for an early Camaro ?

Also curious if any other car is as well documented as our Corvettes.

Mark, I suggest that you both check out yenko.net. There are very knowlegdable Camaro guys there and I believe that there is a preservation class for unrestored as well as classes for restored Camaros at their events.

      Hi Mark,

There are many Camaro-related groups and forums to be found if one searches the net - it's just a question of perusing them to find those with the most useful information and most knowledgeable contributors. Here are three more to add to Steve's suggestion:

The Camaro Research Group (www.camaros.org) is the closest thing to an NCRS-type site in terms of restoration information. It's a priceless resource and a few of our members have referenced it on the TDB in the past, as well.

First Generation Camaro (www.firstgencamaro.com) has some good info and history too, although it is very light by comparison.

Team Camaro (www.camaros.net) has a very large and active forum.

Wish your friend well on his restoration!

      Louis

no other hobby car club has judging manuals that even come close to those developed for covettes by NCRS. For instance, the VCCA judging manual, whcih covers all chevy greater than 25 years old ,consists of a booklet of about 10 pages(to cover over 85 years of all chevy makes and models). those of us with corvettes are extremely lucky to have the volunteer-generated judging manuals for our judging and restoration efforts. the various clubs and their judging guidelines are only as good as the member volunteer activities. merry christmas to all you guys. mike

Mike - I feel very lucky to have found the NCRS. Everyone has been so helpful. I was doubtful if any other car had such a wealth of info and so many knowledgeable people.

Happy Holidays to all NCRS members !

Oops - you got those addresses wrong.

Team Camaro forum is ---> www.camaros.net
Camaro Research group is ---> www.camaros.org

Both have forums similar to NCRS.
CRG has a ton of research and reports available to the public.

              FWIW:

We are redoing a 1970 Z28 to Factory Specs. to the degree of
NCRS. Have found "nastyz28.com" a very good source(2nd Gen) for info and
the discussion board is just as good as this one. As far as org.
go the ACA (American Camaro Association) is as good as it gets.IMHO

              Thanks; Larry

That's Jerry MacNeish - he's a Diamond judge (the ACA judges Camaros once a year, at the June GM Nationals at Carlisle), restorer, active drag racer, author, '67-'69 Camaro appraiser/authenticator, and is a fellow Core Member of the CRG (Camaro Research Group) at www.camaros.org. Our site is THE premier source for '67-'69 Camaro restoration data and information, and the twelve of us work hard to keep it up to date with new and detailed Research Reports. Our site also has an originality-oriented discussion forum.

The ACA doesn't have any published judging guides, but they're working on it. The next best thing are Jerry MacNeish's two books on '67-'68 and '69 Camaros, available from his website above.

John, I agree about the GM Nationals as I have been there several times with my Z28 and won the coveted Legends award twice. Jerry is a great resource but his expertise is in First Gen. Most of the current research is centered on First Gen cars and can be found at the site you mentioned. As Larry mentioned previously, other than nastyz28.com, there really is no other site for early Second Gen owners and the research is sparse at best with only a few qualified judges.
