    That was always my understanding, but I wasn't involved with any orders back then so I had to rely on old paperwork I had seen over the years.

    Very similar to todays system without the computer. I can order 1000 Corvettes today and get an order number for every one. Will I get all of the cars I order ? No. But those order numbers will not be used. Similar to ones not used or lost by dealers long ago.

      Nope, it won't help you with anything, and contains no information whatsoever about the car.
