1962 Job Numbers & Pilot Line Cars

The 'pilot line' cars made me think of a discovery from last week end. 1962 Corvette s/n # 52 has a job number of 44 clearly written in the normal locations. Is this an indication that there were 8 pilot line cars?
I guess that assumes no job numbers were skipped accidentally.

Dave,
I started a thread not too long ago concerning a similar issue. It was 64 VIN #25 with job #22 written on it. The consensus was there is no correlation between the two numbers, although it does make you wonder sometimes.
