Can anyone pinpoint the first year that dealers installed plastic license plate frames to promote their own dealerships? Thanks!

Stan, I think that might be a tuff question, I know the 60's and 70's most of the plates were made of metal and chrome plating, then plastic came around cutting the cost, In the mid to late 70'sNew England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Sorry Stan, but that one falls in the "who cares" department - at least with me. I think the first thing I did with any of my new was pull them off and pitch them. I don't advertise for free for any dealer, specially wit junk frames.

I'm sure it was sometime in the 70's. However, it was not an "across-the-board" change-over. Some dealers NEVER started using plastic frames. The long-time Chevrolet dealer here used metal frames right up until the time they closed about a year ago.
I think it will be virtually impossible to determine which dealer first used plastic frames and what year they changed to them.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
