I had exchanged information with a fellow by the name of Rusty. I became aware of Rusty from the yenko.net website. He had some good prices on Goodyears. His phone number is (816) 309-5961. Hope this helps.

      Ed,

No matter where you get them -

RWL Speedway F70-15 Nylon-2 ply -> are going to run right around $245.00 a piece -
      trust me

Kelsey is the ONLY manufacturer of the tire, short of buying direct from them, you will find them only at a dealer for Kelsey.

Only way to get them cheaper is to find a used set that someone does not need any longer.
I sold mine right after passing PV last year!

HATED them - car handled and drove like complete crap.

Bill, I currently have two set of tires now, the firestone super r belted red lines( which came on car when I brought it) and a good set of radials, I know how the bias plys handle, but like the looks of the original tires. Maybe I'll I find a recent set of take off like yours, I'll get rid of the red lines.

I was on kelseys web site, there presently at 235. each.

I'd suggest that you could rent or borrow a set, but probably shouldn't say that.

Pat, I about 38 years ago I made the wrong choice for my trade, fixing cars for a living was'nt the best choice, I should have went into making reproduction tires, at 235. each, I think my C5 Z06 tires might be around the same price.

              LOL!

My goal is to have the 2008 paid off before I need new tires. Those suckers aren't inexpensive either!

Hey hey, man - That's MY tires you're talk'n 'bout!

Must agree, though. They look GREAT on the car, but they do ride like h***.

Have 2 sets. You need them both. One set of radials for driving and one for judging/showing. Besides, what else would you use to fill up the space in your garage?

                  Don,

AT one point I had 3 sets....

                  The RAdial TA's for driving
The Goodyear's for PV and one TFlght (sold to you)

                  and lastly ---

the 1972 Uniroyal Tigerpaws (mounted on the cars original rims..)
-- use these for NCRS shows I trailer to -- only ----

                    Edward------

ALL of the Goodyear reproduction tires are sourced only from Kelsey Tire. As far as I know, Kelsey has an exclusive license with Goodyear to reproduce their tires. At one time, these tires were actually manufactured by Kelly-Springfield (a Goodyear subsidiary company), but I believe they are now manufactured by another company. In any event, they are manufactured exclusively for Kelsey (just like Firestones are manufactured exclusively for Coker).

In general, you will pay the Kelsey list price for the tires regardless of where you actually buy them. Plus, you will pay shipping either from wherever you buy them or drop shipped from Kelsey. However, here's something that most folks don't know:

These tires are available from any Goodyear dealer. 95% of the dealers don't know that, but if you have them check, they'll find that they can get them. You will pay Kelsey list price + shipping from Kelsey. However, the dealer will mount them for free and you might be able to talk them into balancing them for free.

                      Joe is correct ......
I purchased the my previous Goodyear's from Discount Tire here in Tallahassee. I paid $240, they included the shipping and did mount them at no extra charge. I think I did have to pay for balancing, but that would be the case no matter what tires were purchased (around $10 per tire I think).

I sort of remember when asking Kelsey about buying direct, it would cost something like $15-$20 per tire to ship. Then you would get stuck also paying for mounting and balancing.

I'd suggest that you could rent or borrow a set, but probably shouldn't say that.

Could make some decent $$$ doing it.

Rent the set for $250 with a $1000 refundable deposit.
Person renting pays all shipping charges.
Gets deposit back providing no damage to tires etc...

Bet it would go over well.

The tires are worthless for driving and who really wants to spend $1200 for something you would end up using infrequently.

I've/we've (I co-own them with another member) got a set of low mile original 1972 tires here that I've used twice for judging, and that's it. They're nice to look at, but...

I keep hearing so many folks say the reproduction tires are just terrible to drive with. However, they are very faithful to the original design and construction and the rubber compounds are actually much improved over what was originally used. I just don't remember the original tires on my 1969 being all that bad on the road. The thing I remember most about them is that they did not last very long even though I drove the car very sanely. I burned rubber a few times with both of my Chevelle SS 396's that preceded the Corvette in my life, but I ABSOLUTELY NEVER burned rubber with the Corvette. NEVER. EVER. TO THIS DAY. AND I NEVER WILL. NEVER. EVER. EVEN WITH THE "ZL-1".

It may well be that if I drove on the reproduction Speedway Wide Tread tires now, I would not like them because I've become so accustomed to radials. I remember another thing, too, though: after the original tires wore out, I replaced them with a set of Goodyear PolyGlass GT size F-60-15. With those tires, the car handled MUCH better, but did ride noticeably harder. They lasted about 50,000 miles. I had 2 sets on the car over time and by the time I was ready for the third set, bias ply tires were about gone from the market. So, I had to switch to radials. I was shocked at how poorly the car handled with the radials as compared to the PolyGlass GT's. I HATED the radials, but there was no "going back".

The PolyGlass GT's are now reproduced by Kelsey. I've often thought about putting a set back on the car.

Borrowing parts (tires) for attainment of a top flight, sounds a little like stretching the unwritten rules. With having said that, "anyone want to loan me a dated/tinted/original windshield for my 1967 to get me that Duntov Award? LOL

Sounds like someone needs to set up a tent with wheel/tire combos "for rent" prior to a judging event. They could keep many years in stock and even take "reservations" ahead of time!
                              ...maybe $150-200 for the day?

I'm mainly kidding and smiling as I type so don't beat me down too badly.
