    57 Base Engine Balancer Pulley

I'm looking for a thin groove balancer pulley for a base 1x4 engine. All I can find are deep groove pulleys or pulleys with no detail. I would appreciate any leads.

    Thanks,
    Tom

Try a google search, damper docs and a few others have rebuilt balancers. They may have what you need, all are $$$$

      Tom -

The base engine crank pulley was riveted to the balancer; you might try Damper Dudes at (800) 413-2673 or Damper Doctor at (530) 246-2984 (both are in Redding, California). Have you tried Grossmueller's or Mary Jo Rohner at www.vettegal.com?

        John!
Thin or deep ? My 57 FI had a wide riveted pulley same as the Gen.and water pump pulley , which used a wide fan belt not the thin fan belt I see on many FI vetts. Is that correct?

The base 1x4 engine would have had a narrow (3/8") crank pulley, riveted to the balancer.

            John,

Would the 2X4 setup on both a late 56 and a 57 use the deep groove pulley riveted to the balancer or just the 57? I've heard both used the deep groove pulley, and also just the 57.

I'm not sure on the '56 - never had one. I've owned and restored two '57 270's, and both of them had the deep-groove bolt-on crank pulleys; the new JG says 270's all had riveted deep-groove pulleys, but the previous edition said some late 270's could have either riveted or bolted (both of mine were very late cars).

                Mark,
'56 also used the riveted pulley to balancer.
