    Underhood alarm switch

Does anyone have a photo or photos of what the underhood alarm switches are supposed to look like for 1970-1972 Corvettes? I have door courtesy and door ajar switches but they are not the same switches. I have a photo someone sent me of one but it's too large a file to post here and I don't know how to downsize it. Doing so would lose the detail.

    Thanks,

    Scott,

Posting some from my '71, never off the car. Don't ding me for
the brown dist cap, it's off season!

    Hope it helps.

The hood switch for the alarm system and the door ajar switch (in rear door jamb area) are exactly the same switch----GM #3929804. It's still available from GM for about 20 bucks, GM list. The current switch might deviate from the originals in nuances. For example, the "SX" manufacturer's ID mark is no longer usually seen.

Joe, if so then what is this SX switch for? A 1972 Corvette owner says this is the switch she needs for her underhood alarm bracket. The door courtesy and ajar switches have totally different ends than the one in the photo.

Isn't this switch the door jamb courtesy switch and the shorter version the door ajar switch?

Looks to me like the standard door switch which has a MUCH longer shaft than the door ajar/alarm switches do...

Okay...which is which? I have a photo of one that has a flat piece of plastic between the electrical posts with two protruding spades and is said to be the underhood alarm switch and the other that has a round nose and two of the three spades on the pigtail plug into the base and it is thought to be a door jamb courtesy switch. I have a photo (not yet posted) of a shorter version of it and is said to be the door ajar switch.

                Scott,

I'm doing a frame off of a 70 and I'm the second Owner. I'm pretty certain all switches are original based upon the wiring. I just removed the hood switch and wiring last night and have the door switches already out. I'll post pics of both this evening.

Scott, The switch in you're photo, with the spade connectors and plastic divider, is for a 1974 and newer application. If you look at the wire ends on you're friends '72 I'm sure you will see that they have been changed. The small connectors for the original style switch were probably broken (very easily done) and until recently were not available.
As Joe said, the under-hood alarm switch is the same as the door switch.

Thanks, Tom. I need photos to determine what switches are what. Joe and Sal may be right and the person with the '72 may be wrong but this will clear up any doubt in my mind.
By the way, have you registered your 1970 Corvette with the 1970 Corvette Registry? I have been assisting Juliet Page for about five years. Here's the Home Page:

Sal, thanks for your help on letting me off the hook on that exhaust tip you had on eBay. And thanks for the information on that switch which you describe as being for a '74 and up. The person with the '72 will need that information as she thinks it is correct for her Corvette. Gladly my '70 doesn't have a factory alarm.

                        Re: Underhood alarm switch

Thanks to all who contributed to this endeavor. Joe and Sal are correct about the 1968-1972 door ajar switch and hood alarm switch being the same. At the time I didn't even know that the door ajar switches and courtesy light switches were different. I learned that one of the switches in the photos I posted is for 1974 and up. I also learned from Chuck Anderson of Automotive Performance Unlimited that the SX disappeared from the plunger heads of the switches in '73 or '74.
