Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
I think he needs another gear ! It's got some stink in a straight line. He really pulls away from that Camaro on the straight. Stewy- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
Very cool! And, I'm with Stewy, love it when he pulls away from the Camero.
I have never been to Road America, but it sure looks awesome. I've been to Portland for the historics which is a ton of fun with great cars. I would love to be able to afford to participate in the vintage racing.Rob

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
Yeah it does sound like a fat motor. People carry on about the fantastic high pitched squeal the Ferrari's make. Sorry but drop the pipes on a bent 8 and put it up on the limit and they sound awesome. Stewy- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
Great photo of the Allard. Did you ever get your dad back for making you wear those shorts. That Vette is screaming, not sure why the GT40 was taking the incorrect flight path. It's always good to see a Chev overtake a Ford. I think I have seen footage of that car before in high resolution ? Stewy

The driver of the GT-40 told me he couldn't see anything out of his mirrors and wasn't sure in I was on his inside in corners.- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
"yes, thats Road America/Elkhart Lake, WI...site of the infamous 2005 crash, if anyone ever gets the chance to go there you should pay for track touring during lunch, even at highway speeds it`s a beautiful place....this video is in fact from one of the cars involved in that `05 crash...Road America is a big block track and this car has a bigger than most big block. The racing is much more exciting at the front, this car finished 8th out of 20 cars."
Sounds like a ratmotor alright.
Engine has power to spare and pulls hard to redline wayyyyyy before the end of the main straight. Like Stewy said, needs another gear, and bigger brakes to go along with it. He's off the power very early into the turns...........probly not enough stopping power to go along with lack of gear.Last edited by Joe C.; December 6, 2009, 07:29 PM.- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
Here's the sound of a Rochester injected smal block in a 63 Corvette at Road America. Was way fun! Sorry about the quality.

Nice film, and even though missed 4th gear, had no trouble passing the Ford in (Moraine?) straight.Last edited by Joe C.; December 6, 2009, 07:30 PM.- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
That was a long time ago. There was an issue with clutch adjustment and it was difficult to upshift and even worse downshifting that day.
I passed him coming down the long hill into corner 5. We were very closely matched in accl so I had to try to out brake him. He saw me drop back when I missed 4th and relaxed a little. He backed off a bit early for 5 but I didn't. Drove in deep and made the pass.
That same GT-40 sold many years ago for well over a million.- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
With the roof height of only 40'' and a boot full of windsor I guess finding a guy behind you when your doing over a ton could get tricky. He should put those mirrors on from the Testarossa LOL. Stewy- Top

Re: Crank Up the Volume and Hold On
I dunno. When it stopped pullin, I started shiften.
Actually, I don't remember. That was a long time ago. That was one of the first few weekends out with the FI instead of a Holley carburetor.
Very strong high pressure Carrillo rod motor that made a lot of power. Ran better lap times at Road America with the FI than it did with a carburetor.- Top
