    Eaton Spring

Thought I read you could buy the rear spring from Eaton without paint and not assembled. They told me it had to be assembled and it would cost an additional $75 to remove the paint. Did I miss understand? Has anyone encountered the same from Eaton?

    Thanks

I have heard similar stories. Despite the cost I would still consider doing this. I bought the spring as delivered and the black paint is rather thick and taking it apart will likely trash the liners too. I would assume that this 75 bucks extra would save you from buying new liners,

      Hi Timothy,

You might want to look up the following Thread on the CF with applicable comments from John Hinckley, titled: "Thanks for CE spring article JohnZ" in the C1 & C2 section.

During several posts, John mentions who to talk to, what to ask for regarding not having it painted, where to get the correct paint and liners, and to request 1" less curvature in the spring compared to the one they were making. The thread is from 2004 so you will need to confirm whether or not things have changed. I haven't reached that point in my restoration, so I haven't found out yet if this info is still "current", but it's worth taking a look.

      Hope that helps,

      Scott

What about the spring advertised in the Driveline from America's Finest (I think that is the place)? They advertise that it is "correct" in many ways. Has anyone verified the "correctness" of this spring?

I think America's Finest Corvettes only offers the "HD 7-Leaf Rear Spring".

Here is a link to John Hinckley's article (Corvette Enthusiast magazine) on Eaton's leaf-springs, from forum member Barry Kimmelman's (41605) website:

              Scott,
that may be correct. I would still like to hear if anyone has inspected these springs and/or installed them. Mine sits high and I would like to correct it some day, without having the spring re-arced.

                Heads up guys!

I talked to Mike Eaton at the PRI in Orlando last month and told him about our collective heartburn over his fee to remove paint. He explained that they paint ALL springs at the time of manufacture to avoid rust while in FG inventory. After the show, he emailed me and said that due to the complaints over the extra cost for removing paint, he would wave the fee going forward. Not clear if he's also going to stop painting or not.

Anyway, I went to Detroit (Eaton) Spring today and picked up a new spring. No problem with the raw finish. It's ready to disassemble and paint if desired. Now my work begins, but suffice to say that I believe the matter of paying extra for paint removal is over.

                    Don,
I called Mike at Eaton yesterday also. I asked about getting the 9 leaf unpainted and he told me "no problem". The price if I remember right was $224. I forgot to ask about shipping. When I asked about the 9 leaf and how long it would take he said he had just sold 2 in the last to minutes!! Sounds like this is "spring " weather. Along with the springs on another note, someone mentioned they had a problem pulling up the set of liners on Quantras web site. Something about only being able to click on the "one liner" icon. I tried and couldn't find the full set either. Anyone else? And what about the paint? Will the spray paint the vendors are selling good enough for judging? Thanks!

                      Henry,
A few days back I was unable to find the paint or liner kit on Quanta's website and sent an email to them. Here was their response:

We cannot supply the paint at this time and are in the process of reworking the price on the kits. Sorry for any inconvenience.

In regards to Eaton Spring, I was able to buy an unpainted Eaton Spring from Vette Products Of Michigan for my 67 for $199 last week.
