    61-62 Owner Credit for Manual

We are going to cover the owners packet contents as a chapter event. The judging guides for 63 and up cover this area very well and spell out requirements.

However the solid axle coverage is nil as far as I can find. I have not uncovered any owners manual or any other details of it for scoring in the fifth edition of the 61-62 guide. Is this an over site? And should not owners receive credit for correct original manuals in the early cars? If so what section?

      Bill,
I'm not familiar with the "Whats inside is important to you" Brochure (#4), the 1962 New Vehicle Condition Inspection and Adjustment Report (#8) or the Crankcase Vent valve Service Instruction (#10). Can you post part numbers and/or photos.??? Wasn't PCV introduced in California only in 1962.??? Also on these pieces where it indicates they were in the car from St. Louis.
Can you help me determine where you found that the key keeper is part of the glovebox package.?? I know they existed but always thought they were dealer installed. There were 2 or 3 colors of those.
It is my understanding the a white booklet "Concerning your new Chevrolet" was part of the 61 glovebox package.
      Any clarification is appreciated.

        Dave:

Since my '62 is an October 9, 1961 final assembly and an October 19, 1961 customer delivery. I'm not certain what St. Louis put in the glove box vs. Selman Chevrolet (It was a very small dealership then), But the list above was the total of what was there.

        4) is form 555-3 copyright 1961
        8) is GSD 99 Rev.8/61
        9) is part number 3781283 printed 11/17/59 ( I think this is CALIF only but the car was delivered with a CVS and this tag was in the glove box)

As for the Key Keeper, it was in the envelop but I don't know who put it there. Also, I have a "Concerning Your New Chevrolet" part number 3799575 with no date. It wasn't in this car when delivered but I found one along the way because a very early reference in the Restorer CD indicated they were supplied with 1962s.

        Hope this helps.

You can forget the Crankcase valve instruction if the car was not a California delivery. I know where a limited number of the "new vehicle delivery" sheets (blank) are available

            Bill,
Neat stuff. Thanks for taking the time to post it. My research tells me that items #4, #8 , and the key keeper envelope were added at the selling dealer. Just my opinion. I have one of those yellow caution tags in my collection and always guessed it was for a 62 closed ventilation car but never had accurate information to verify that. I find it interesting that the tag has a 12-17-59 date on it. Also I have seen many 62 passenger cars with the "Concerning Your New Chevrolet" booklet in them but the Corvette hobby seems to think it was unique to 1961.
The "Your Owner Protection Plan booklet" folder is a neat piece and it pretty rare.
I take it that Selman Chevrolet is/was in California.
For you to have saved all of this is unbelieveable.
            Thanks for sharing.

Yes. A California dealership at 402 W Chapman in Orange, CALIF....still in business at the other end of Chapman today.

              Glad you enjoyed.

              Bill

PS I think my friend who had a '61 there in CA had a CVS as well....Maybe required even earlier.

It is my understanding that PCV option was "required" in California, but, in reality, was just another RPO that any buyer could order. I do not believe that somebody from Rhode Island would be denied purchase of that RPO.

I want to thank everybody for the information and time to share it. I think all this info will greatly add to our chapter discussion this Saturday.

I hope some of this document information will spill over and get added to NCRS judging guide for 61-62. As it stands now there is nothing on the topic in print. Maybe the older issues of the Driveline has something on the topic for C1's.

The 67 judging guide does a very good job of defining these pieces of literature in the owners packet or glove box.
