    Semi-Correct Engine Deduction?

    The car is a '65 365hp, Nov. '64 birthdate.

Under the hood is a January 1965 365hp engine, all dates correct, with a textbook pad showing a January-correct VIN. (Have previously advertised seeking that car, with no hits).

Trying to assess how steep the Top Flite hill would be for this car. How many points would I automatically lose due to the too-late production date and different VIN?

I think in addition to the info Tom has provided, we need a little more info, is the casting date prior to the car build date? Is the Engine ID stamp prior to the car build? As you can see, you start with the casting number and and and then work up from there. 350 points is possible if all items are correct. an 870 block from Flint earns 175 points, If the casting date precedes the car build you gain another 88 points. If the pad is showing original finish another 38 points are possible. The stampings are worth 25 each for the 350 total assigned to the engine block and identifiers. So just having an 870 block from Flint is worth half credit, and you can gain from there depending on the details of your engine.

        Re: Semi-Correct Engine Deduction?

Thanks Tom & Clup. The block was cast after the car's build date, so I see that 175 points for being a Flint -870 is the max possible.

With that confirmed, it occurs that this engine is worth 150 points more to someone with an L76 built after my engine's late January assembly date.
Back to the drawing board with my plans for this restoration!
