I am installing a complete oval muffler exhaust system on my '62 that I purchased from a well known vendor that has been selling these systems for a long time. What I am finding is that with a 1" clearance between the rear of the muffler and the shock absorber, the rear pipes cover the muffler outlet about 1/2" only, and the clamp assemblies over the axle, and at the frame X have to be switched from left to right, and right to left, opposite the directions in the Assembly Manual, to achieve closer clamping on the cutouts in the pipe. The new muffler main section is 23 long."
I spoke with someone who said he looked at a 1962 with the original exhaust on an off road system, and he noticed that the clamp assemblies at the frame X were transposed from the Assembly Manual drawings.
Any comments would be welcome.
