    Clock Question

The second hand fell off while driving one day. We had the clock looked at and it was determined that the second hand just needed to be put back in place. This is a mechanical clock and I remember the second hand "sweeping" and not pulsating like a quartz. When I fired it back up it is pulsating, is it possible something is binding up? maybe the second hand was pushed in too far?

    Thanks for the help.

ok maybe my memory is shot too. So it sounds like it works like it should then.

        Re: Clock Question

Just to set the record straight. There is a repo 65-67 clock that clicks along just as the original. The movement is a little bit longer than the original and it is a quartz movement.

The original quartz movements sweep smoothly along and can be easily detected by anyone.

        Take you pick.

        1. Original Clock and Movement- clicks along- may run for a day/week/year/or a moment
        2. Original Clock with Quartz Movement- smooth sweep-accurate and will probably last a lifetime.
        3. Reproduction Clock with Quartz Movement- clicks along-accurate and will probably last a lifetime.

          Joe,
I haven't heard of the pulse movement quartz clock. Can you supply any additional info on where to obtain one?

          Regards,
          Rick

Keep in mind that some of the better "ops" judges will check the clock by asking the owner to use the battery disconnect to kill the power. A "real" clock will continue to run, a Quartz will stop dead. And then there is that nasty "ticking sound"

              Bill,
I understand where you are coming from BUT what if there is no battery disconnect? Can a judge ask that the owner to pull the battery cable?

Not likely, but these days, few "serious" folks will pass up the "free" bonus points. Many if not most disconnect the battery for judging just to keep it charged.

                  Rick,

The new quartz can be easily detected because it jumps 1 second at a time where the old mechanical movement moves in smaller increments.

They are very accurate and are one of the best reproductions on the market since there are so many parts reproduced.

You can find them advertised on e-babe for as little as $235.00 plus shipping.
