3733365 bellhousing date and casting number visibility

    Hi all,

I'm trying to determine if my bellhousing is original without removing it. I saw on other threads that it should have the external mounting ball stud 3733365 bellhousing with 13/16"-16 thread. As a lot of you know, I'm not much of a car guy. Could someone post a pic of what that should look like? I also read that I should not see the date code as it is covered by the transmission. This is the case on mine, though I do see "GM" cast into the side opposite of the clutch fork hole. here are pics of my bellhousing:

I have some pics I found on ebay. On these you would be able to see the date code with the trans installed. Is this the configuration for in 68 vs 58? Anyone have a pic of what it should look like?

    Thanks as always!

Here are pics of my Bellhousing. Does it look correct externally?

1st & 2nd pics - The fork stud appears installed from the inside, so does that likely mean it is a passenger bellhousing, or am I misunderstanding?
3rd & 4th pics - No date is visible from outside, just "GM".

Your bellhousing appears to have the passenger configuration ball stud. The Corvette ball stud has no hex flange base.

Of the eBay bellhousings you pictured in your first post, the center-pictured also has a passenger car configuration ball stud. The bellhousing on the right has the correct Corvette stud configuration. I can't tell what the bellhousing on the left is.

The one on the left is actually another view of the one on the right -- but should it have the date code located where it is? John Hickley said: when installed it should not be visible - in one of his posts...

          Ian -

I don't recall the specific post, but I believe I was referring to the casting number, which is completely obscured by the transmission case. The casting date is only partially obscured, but is difficult to see while lying on the ground.

ok, thanks for the clarification John!
I'm on the lookout for a good 365 bellhousing now

here's a pic of the Corvette stud I found on CF.

Re: 3733365 bellhousing date and casting number visibility

Please, one more clarification. I've been following this thread because I've got two 3733365 bell housings sitting in my garage (59 Vette) and thought they were for Vettes. Both have the externally inserted ball studs #3729000. These are the correct studs? They look like the ones in Ian Gaston' 5:01 PM post and John's post.

Sorry for beating this to death, but both housings need extensive (maybe too extensive ) welding to work. But both are numbers correct for my 59 and I would like to save them if I could if they are the correct studs.

                  Stephen-----

Bellhousings with the 3729000 studs are correct for Corvettes. However, this does not necessarily mean that the bellhousings you have originally resided on a Corvette. The same bellhousing, including 3729000 stud, was also used for some passenger cars. It doesn't matter, though, where they originally resided; they are the same as Corvette.
