    Need help from C2 officianattos

There is a '66 Coupe on the Mecum site. Lot F166 scheduled to be sold on Friday 1/29 in Kissimmee. The car is very rough and exhibits several problems but it looks like it was nicely optioned and might make a nice project car. Would you please look at the engine bay photo and tell me what's going on with the distributor?

Page Not Found. Here are some quick links to the top Mecum Auctions pages to get you back on track quickly.

I'm thinking about acquiring a project car - something north of a basket case. I tend to favor originality over condition.

    Floyd,

its just a HEI (high energy ignition) distributor. Nothing to worry about. I don't know if it has a tach drive set-up or not. So the tach might not work.

Thanx Rich. Do you see any obvious "red flags" with this car? I don't recognize those wheels.

Shoot Floyd that don't look like a 1/2 bad car to start with. BUT I WOULD NEVER BUY A CAR FROM PICTURES!!! It looks like both lh+rh A/C under dash ducts are there. Original solid rivet on the passenger side hood surround for the wire clip is a possible good sign that there is not major nose damage. Wrong master cyl will be expensive and restoring an A/C car adds a few thousand to the total cost, but the end value is also higher.
I am doing the body and assembly on a green green 66 300 HP A/C 3 speed car for a customer now. Also you could sell the hood and still make money when replacing it with a small block hoood.
It definitly looks like a car to check out more closely.

Big block hood, small block engine.
Car sits very high, especially in the rear.
Funny stains on the passenger side carpet. Water? Flood car?
Bubba has played with the cooling system. Note the TWO rad caps.
The AC belt is missing, usually means major work to be done to restore function.
          Lots of aftermarket/incorrect engine hardware.
Rubber fuel line leading to the carb. Nice fire hazard!

They do say 'great driver', I would read between the lines.

Floyd...here are a few other items to think about...
The engine has several unusual aspects...earlier fuel filter, valve covers NTP, intake manifold not '66 300 or 350 HP, master cylinder may be '67, doesn't have back-up lights (which were standard) and has added right hand rear view mirror. The hubcaps are '66.
As mentioned, this car would need a close personal look, either by you or at least one of our mid year guys in the local area. Since it is an auction car, a preview may only be done on site at the auction.

            Hope this helps...Dave

Ditto on Michael Ward's post....I would be very uncomfortable with the huge water stains covered by the floormat...rusty birdcage ??

Thank you gentlemen. This is exactly the kind of advice I was seeking. At least I have a good list of tings to look at when I have my Chance to inspect the car.

Good catch Keith. I didn't notice that until you pointed it out. Now I notice that you can see the curb in the background through the upper wheel well in the first picture. The amount I'm willing to bid on this car keeps going down. When I inspect the car, I hope to determine where the water is coming from that has ruined the carpet. It if it seems to be coming down from the dash, I'll probably let this "opportunity" pass me by.

Look at the bright side, nobody fakes a Mossport color choice.

I guess it's just me, but I happen to like the color. Probably wouldn't have chosen the green interior though.

Count me in the Mossport Green corner. I love a well done m.g. paint job on a 66.

Fellows the color is called Mosport Green. Floyd like Rich said look at the car first in person. From the pictures the car looks like a great project car, a good candidate for a body-off. Good Luck!

Absolutely. I would never buy a car sight unseen. The auction happens to be the weekend after the Kissimmee Regional so I hope to enlist the help of at least one of my fellow Florida Chapter C2 guys to assess the car.

BTW, it is indeed a candidate for a future frame-off project. Keeps me off the streets at night and the little lady always knows where to find me.
