    PF-25 Oil Filter replacement...

About 6 years ago I purchased the remaining stock of the all blue colored AC Delco Duraguard PF-25 oil filters from what is now a defunct Chevrolet dealership. Having run out of stock, I went to another Chevy dealership today to purchase a PF-25 and was told (like my Delco 74 series battery post) that it's no longer available. I was advised that a suitable replacement would be either the PF-45 (short filter) or a PF-1218 (longer/similarly sized filter as the PF-25). One question most likely for Joe L and one observation; is the PF-1218 an appropriate replcement and it seemed as though my oil pressure was reading higher than normal at idle. Thanks.

Ray , I was about to ask the same question regarding the PF25. With respect to your battery comment , I just replaced my old 74 6 YR battery on Sat. I was told that the 74 series was discontinued and was replaced with the 78 series. The new battery 78 series fit just like the 74 series.

I believe that the old style (white can with blue/red lettering) is being reproduced by Paragon under GM license. I was told they could be ordered from Paragon or from GM Parts Dept. Not certain of the part number, but I can find it if you need.

Price is $$. If you want function only, than I recommend using later replacement AC or WIX or Baldwin.

I would have to go to the garage to get the part number, but it was discussed on this board back in the Spring. The reproduction is the white PF25. There are some differences in the original PF25s over the years, including the color and a wide variety of labeling. The reproduction is different than any of the originals, but close to many of them.

Here's the reproduction PF-25, and the reproduction PF-35.

Glenn, did you get the one with both the top and side posts? I saw that this one had a higher CCA than the one having just the side posts. With limited use (and even with a charger), I've occasionally had to get a jump, and the top posts provided out in the open access to make an easy and solid hookup of the cables. I'm wondering if a double post delco would receive more than a 50% deduction?

PF-25 still made in Canada. But the bottom of it is not the same as the real deal. The bottom has a small circle the size of a quarter where as the real deal PF25 has a round circle on the center of the bottom roughly the size of a silver dollar.
I would have to go measure.
Check on ebay for case purchase of the Canadian ones.
Now for the C4's they should be black with a nice black/silver decal. Hint. JD

The current "shorter" replacement for the PF-25 is the PF-454 and NOT the PF-45. The PF-45 was a now-discontinued, small OD filter used for Cadillacs and some other GM cars.

The PF1218 will work perfectly if you wish to use it. I believe it's a little longer than the old PF-25 but not as long as the old PF-35, which the PF-1218 replaces.

The "reproduction" white "AC" PF-25 filter is GM #19187300. About 27 bucks, each, GM list.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and insights. I'm going with the PF-1218 purchased at Auto Zone for $4.69. In comparison to the white reproduction for $27...I've got money left for 5 more oil changes...

                      Dick,

The WIX and NAPA (made by WIX) are both black. Not the easiest to check for oil leaks. I buy the NAPA Gold 1060 (painted black also) and paint it white.

Ray, If you have an O'Reilly's store close by they can get you the white PF-25 reproduction filter for about $12. I just bought about 10 of them from my local store and got a deal for under $10 each. They are very close to the original filter in size, color and silk screening. I've noticed no change in oil pressure with the reproduction filter.

The battery I purchased had side terminals only. If you need more CCA , I believe there is a 78-7yr. Check A/C Delco's web site. I have never had charging issues with the Delco's I have purchased in the past. Do you use a battery cut off switch ? I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

The AC Delco batteries you purchased recently likely were not manufactured by Delco, since they have been out of the manufacturing business for around five years. YMMV, especially now.
