    C1 pulley alignment for '61 230 hp

I am putting my engine back together and putting on original parts where I can.
My pulleys lined up good enough to drive with no problems. After rebuilding engine and having gen ( no tag but has drive at end) rebuilt I discovered gen pulley was 3 3/8" and narrower than water and crank pulleys. I bought the correct offset one from Corv. Central. With correct gen pulley it is 3/8" further out than pump pulley. Pump pulley is 1/16" past crank with reinforcement cup behind pulley ( I could get pump hub pressed on further). I do not believe spacer was behind dampner when engine was disassembled as I could not find it when putting it together and therefore installed a new one. According to Info Manual I have the wrong gen end frames (3 1/2" mounting distance and front has ribs). It mounts so close to valve covers I do not know how a mounting distance of 3 1/4" would fit. Are the thickness' of the end frames different for Corvette and passenger? I have a little space between gen case and mounting bracket that could be fixed with a washer. It appears in parts book the armature is the same for a tach drive or ps so I assume the overall case length, diameter, and look is same for Corvette or passenger. Do the mounting plates that mount to exhaust manifold have different holes so as to affect gen location according to gen #? I am assumming the dampner is correct with 4 1/2" hub on 6 1/8" outer ring and no part #. Any suggestions?

Paul, You are in the same dilemma I was in when rebuilding my 59s' engine many years ago. It is in fact a 61 '519 CU(270hp). Prior owner(s) had the generator on the left(quite incorrect), so I wanted to correct everything.

I found I had several wrong brackets. The flat plate that mounts to the manifold has 2 variations, FI or carbureted. The u-bracket that mounts to the flat plate also has 2 types for FI or not. So yes you may have one or both incorrect brackets. If you have Noland's book I think the measurements are there. Are you using the flat plate? That raises the U-bracket & generator up away from the valve cover.

Armature(1940313) is identical for tach drive generator and power steering generator, however the generator rear end frame is different for Corvette vs Pass. Yes the distance from armature center to end frame rear mount hole center is the difference. Corvette is 3 1/4". Pass is 3 1/2" as you said you have. This will change the angle of the mount. With various brackets, mount plates, and pulleys I know this really gets frustrating. A picture or 2 of what you have now may help.

Many 2043 generators may not have the correct end frame for Corvette as the tag was applied to either pass or Corvette application. You could use the 3 1/2" end frame but will likely have to work around the variations to get things lined up.

Maybe you saw this but this thread talks much about this too.

Are you sure you have the right mounting bracket? If memory serves me it is a two piece bracket. If it is then you might have to lengthen the holes to give you some adjustment.

Thanks for the info. I did not come up with that 270hp link when I did a archive search. I do have the flat plate on manifold attached and long bracket to it. I will get Noland's book. I am sure my set up is from passenger but I would like to know the differences between the flat plates.
Drilling holes to adjust the gen bracket is probably my best bet until I can get proper end plates, or expensive rebuilt #043, and then get new flat plate.
The u-bracket must be the same for all ps and tach generators.
