1963 Spare Tire - temporary donut?

Am going to be converting to radial tires (205 75R 15) on my 1963 and have heard that some who use radials also put a temporary donut spare in the tub due to size limitations of the tub. Looked at some of the previous posts on this topic and saw someone recommened a T155 90 D16 (I think it was for an S10 pickup) as one that would work for a 1965. Can anyone tell me if there is a temporary donut spare out there that could be used for a 1963? Thanks very much.

I would imagine that anything with a 5 X 4.75 bolt pattern would be fine. You don't have disk brakes to worry about.

I hate those temporary tires though. Get a readily availible 5 X 15 chev wheel and put a respectable radial tire on it and you will have something you can drive across the country on if you need to.

The Chevy S10 compact spare will work for your application. Get about a 2001-2002 and you're set to go. Bill

You're MUCH better off going with a standard wheel with the largest radial tire that will fit in the spare tire tub, even if it's not the same size as your road tires.

Never use it on the rear with a car with posi. It can burn the clutches up as the wheels will be turnibg at different speeds.

For our 63 coupe, I went with five 205 15 1"ww radials. Got the longer front spare tire carrier bolts to hold the 5th. Yes it doesn't close tightly and sticks down a little at the back but we take long trips sometimes and I like a full size matching spare for safety. Car also has posi and front disk brake conversion and I wouldn't want a compact at either position.

I guess I am in a more unique position. I still have my original bias ply 6.70 x 15 spare that has never been on the ground. I hope I never need to use it, but if I do, it will only be to get me to a service center.

The measured circumference of the spare needs to be within about 2 percent of the road tires or it's going to pull and wear the clutch packs with Positraction axles.

Some new 205/75R-15 tires will not fit the tub. It's a common size, so one solution if the new tires' OD is too big is to get a worn take off of the same size to use as a spare. If it's too wide, use the longer spare tire cover bolts that were used with the KO wheel option.
