    66 Grill placment , need a picture

    Hi,

As I get ready for paint, my grill is off and has not been on properly for the last 30 or more years. I hit a bridge steel column late one night when I was younger.

It has been hanging by the end brackets and not by the grill top bracket. (broke off). I am fixing the grill and want to install it at the right height as you look head on.

Any pictures of this with or without the front bumpers would be great.

My front grille bracket bolt hole is about 3/4" below the body hole. The car had a crashed nose when I bought it and following replacement of the entire nose that center bracket never aligned (body damage only - no radiator support, bumper, bumper bracket or chassis damage). I've always thought this was a result of the nose panels not being correctly located, but everything else lines up fine? I'm also interested in hearing from others about 66 grille alignment. I cannot take a picture. Car is on jack stands with nose up to a wall

Thank you . Looks like I am going to have to do a little glass work for the center tab (broken) both grill and front header area where center support if I had one would connect.

One half of the center tab on the body of my 67 was broken. I made a loop out of 12 ga. solid copper insulated wire to approximate the shape of the tab. This formed the shape and held the fiberglass in place while curing.

            Jack ,

I assume you mean this piece. I can not verify its is absolutely correct , but it measures 1 inch high and 1 1/8 wide.

I hope this helps you to get yours to look as good as John's.

That is the spot. May connecting tab on the grill is also broken. I saw a post where JB Weld was used to form a new bracket hole on center of grill.

My nose has three tab places, the broken one and one to the left and right. I wonder what to two other tabs connect to. No place on grill to attach to.

Jack, hope this helps a little.
From a 64 however believe the tabs were the same configuration at the center, but not square (at least I've never seen a square one) the 63/64 had the three tabs and expect the Service Replacement panels had all three which were cut if not needed.

Note, the tab has been repaired a little but outside is still the same, the hole has been elongated upward to reduce downward force which was causing some cracking and hence repair.

I wonder if the center tab is most useful as a height location point.

My grill used the side brackets for sole support for many years. It (grill) just was not high enough and the side brackets look like Bubba worked on them, and he did,

Remember, I said I hit the 59th Street Bridge in 1970 or 71, it is hard to remember, probably the reason why I hit the bridge in the first place. Front end needed some work and at that time , car was sent to the usual insurance body shop. Front end panels and header beam are replacement circa (1970-01)

The tab does not appear to be a good source of support for the grill, but would come in handy to locate proper position of grill.

Think the single center support rod was for later C2's (after 64) So my car has the two support rod assemblies (should just see it in picture by the TI unit)
These rods bolted into the "head light opening body inner end assy" see Sec 12 sheet A5.00 in the AIM (again that's for 64)
SOoo you will not see any holes in the "header beam" (again that's for 64)

                      Check your AIM!

My mistake, no center rod holes.
