I hope I am not asking too much of a newbie question here, please bear with me if I am. First I would like to say this site has been really helpful already with the searches I've done, it seems there are some incredibly knowledgeble people here. I just bought(last month) a 1966 small block matching #'s car(300hp, matching trans and rear end) that has about 165,000 miles on it. Most of the bolt on parts(starter, alternator, water pump, radiator) are not original and I am starting to change that. My first question(probably of many, I'm still waiting for my NCRS 1966 Judging manual) is about the battery cables. I purchased a set of reproduction cables taht were suposed to have the # stamped on them. As can be seen from the picture I am attaching only the black cable has a # stamped on it. The brown cable has no #, no shrink wrap and has the letter N on the clamp. Is this correct and does this mean the brown cable is the negative cable. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bob Mazzetti.

Re: New Member and First Question.
Bob,
first of all welcome aboard!!
You are correct the brown cable is the negative. The black positive cable has the shrink wrap to prevent it from shorting out on the mounting hardware when installing it. And only a question not asked is a dumb question.

Yes, welcome aboard.
What you have is probably the best you will get in repro cables now days. Also, you wouldn't be the first to question the cable color for the negative cable. I've been doing that since my car was new in 63. When you can't see the connections down below at the starter and block you have to remind yourself that the negative is brown - not aged red.
Have fun with your C-2. Got to love um.
