Is there a rubber gasket surround for these C3 windshields like the C2's? Or are they just placed in special putty?

Ray -

Nope, no rubber gasket like a midyear; the glass was installed with Thiokol pumpable adhesive (later replaced by urethane, which is still used today). Don't let a glass shop tell you they were installed with butyl tape - GM never used butyl tape for windshields; it wouldn't meet MVSS windshield retention requirements.

Thanks John, I will be taking out the windshield of my 77 coupe to examin the bircage damage and try to repair it and re seat the windshield. I took the kick panels out and the body mounts are in very good shape. We did do the water test over the two suspected areas below the winshield and water did indeed drip in. I am hoping the damage will not be to bad as the car was mostly garaged and only has 37k original miles on it.
