    Early 63 coupe carpet

I am looking for information on first a source for carpet for my early 63 coupe with tool well under the seats and a good source for installation of this carpet. Is Al Knoch the correct choice for the carpet. I leave in Southern NJ, is there someone who has experience installing this carpet as per the original installation. Al Knoch does not offer any video on how to for the installation.

    Richard,

The best source I've seen on this topic is the latest '63 Judging Manual. There are some detailed photos that illustrate how the carpet is cut to accomodate the seat tracks and under-seat tool kit indentions.

Thank you for the feedback. Any suggestions on a good source of carpet that will pass judging standards?
      Thanks again

Rich, lots of stuff on the subject however first thing you will find is that there does not exist and carpet like the original. It's the weave which is most notable. I've been down this road and never found any of the old stuff left over.
What is happening - the Al Knoch or Auto Custom Carpet seem to be both a good product and are fast becoming what is expected at Flight Judging. Notice in Driveline that Al Knoch is now making a special option which is claimed to be an original heal pad, have not seen it so no comment ( at least they are trying). Have never seen a correct HiBeam rubber washer.

Richard, If you ever get a chance to attend one of Bill Sangrey's seminar on mid year do so. Very enlightening. You will come away from the seminar though knowing that it is impossible to duplicate the original. But the hit on the nice repro is rather minor.
You would think though that it wouldn't take much to duplicate the heel toe correctly. Maybe someone does now.
My 63 has a horrible old repro carpet in it.Bought it 30 years ago. Worst thing on the car. Someday I want to buy a nice new carpet for it. JD

Thanks Alan for the information. Al Knoch appears to be the supplier of choice. Do you know of any source of instructions as to what the carpet should look like when installed.

              Thanks again for the feedback

                  Richard:

I don't use this discussion board very much (I don't have a lot of spare time) so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I've read your post and have attached some pics I took of a friends original 63 roadster carpet. It's car number 079 and I believe it was one of the first automatic transmission cars built for 63 on the first day of production. I took these pics because I believe this car is unmolested on the inside. The carpet loop is correct, great corn rows visible in the carpet, double stitching of different color thread on binding, underside of carpet, etc. I have more pics if you are interested but I guess I can only include 4 in this post. Hope this is helpfull.

Thanks Angelo for the pictures. They provide good detail for the area around the seat. If you have other pictures showing the carpet placement in the care please do send them to me. I have had this car a long time but have forgotten what the carpet looked like before I replaced it at least three times.

                    Thanks again
