Tom --I'll vouch that it was 1988, and that you're standing beside the "right" L88. Driver / owner was Howard Goehring of Sioux Falls SD; I was the co-pilot on the road tour. I've got a copy of (whats left of) the tank sticker.

I had my '64 at the Silver Salute display (1964s) in 1989. Red convertible with white soft top in the second row, 8 cars right of center when viewed from the front of the group.
I trailered my car from Rochester, NY to Rockford, IL to stay with a Corvette buddy. We drove my car from Rockford to Bloomington (about 2 hours) for the show.
Maybe I will bring the car back for the 50th anniversary of '64s!

Tom, I just found my "Earthquake 88" shirt the other day. Packed it away when I got home from the meet. Ya, I remember the temps. I think that Saturday was 106

Yep ! 106 is right. I drove my first Corvette there. A silver 76. The AC worked !!

            Tom,
That's close, but not my car. Mine has back-up lamps and the frosted center wheel covers at the time (now has knock-offs). It also had a white display board inside the windshield, about 9 x 12".

              Yup.

So hot that my friend and I went to see a movie that afternoon just so we could spend time in the AC and cool down.

My first Bloomington meet, and I probably have 200+ pictures of it.

Hi Tom, I was the only '66 small block in the judging field in 1989. Mosport L79 convertible with hardtop, side exhaust and wheel covers. We were the last 66 to be judged that day. Wow, was it hot. Still own the car and drive it here in Winter Park at 9,000' where it's much cooler.

                      Hello Tom;
                      Very cool pictures!.
                      We remember the heat.
Good thing our Corvettes have caused global climate change. HA HA.
Is it cooler twenty years later or is the Air Conditioning just a little closer?

                      Thanks for the memories

Good question. I know I was young and dumb and the heat didn't bother me back then !! I went in 90 or 91 when it was just as hot and drove my 70 coupe with black leather and no AC !! What was I thinking> Had to cover the steering wheel with a towell so I could touch it when I got ready to leave. That was hot.

Chuck: I looked through my shots and don't have one of your 66.

Whats the significance of the " Earthquake 88" slogan? was it the theme of the show? all the Corvettes there caused an earthquake etc etc just curious.

They gathered a whole group of L88's together. On Sunday, they started them all up at the same time !!!! Hence, the Earthquake of L88's in 1988. I believe at the time it was the largest gathering of L88's to be assembled at once.

IMO, it was the most underwhelming sound .

'88 was my first attendance at BG and I had my '84 Gold certified at that time. Have had it Survivor certified and been in Special Collection twice since. The 'earthquake' reference was to the time when all the L88's were to be started up for a few minutes, creating a potential 'earthquake' due to the noise and power. Not sure if it was on Sat. or Sun. of the event, but I still have the program, t-shirt, and an 'earthquake' poster. They were selling similar posters last year ('08) as Special Collection again featured the L88's.
