    1965 FI Side Exhaust Corvette

Does anyone know of any 1965 Fuel Injected Corvette that originally came with side exhaust ?

Thanks in advance for information regarding this question.

Is the car a St. Louis body car or an A.O. Smith body car ?

        Mark,

Only STL body cars originally came with side exhaust.

In the fall of 1964, my friend had a brand new white on white 65 fuelie vert with side pipes.

            It's a St Louis Body.

              Thanks Jerry.

Yes, Don, it has been my understanding that only St. Louis body cars were able to accept side exhaust. I appreciate the confirmation.

I appreciate the feedback from all.

Sounds a little early to be one of the first N14 cars; the '65 judging guide says "Research indicates the most probable availability is around VIN 10,000. Cars before VIN 9,000 with side-mounted exhaust should be examined with great scrutiny".

So factory-installed N14 should not have appeared before early February 1965.

Mine is an April car. Very crude cut outs for the radii compared to later cars. Of course, it is also a St. Louis car.

I'll always remember the first 65 with side pipes. It was a 396HP that our all Clem Zahrobsky and Jerry Simmers drove back from St. Louis. They each drove a 396 back I should have said. That was in the spring of 65. Maybe Clem will see this and chirp in.
Amazing how rough the cut outs(fiberglass) were for those real deal side pipe cars. John

Regarding how early a car could be to have side pipes, I could be wrong on what I remembered. I first saw the car at a High School basketball game when I was home from college. I assumed it was around Christmas, but I suppose it could have been in the early spring. I do remember it was a cold night, but on LI that could be almost any month

Love your 65! The 65 Corvette. The shop manual supplement tells it like no other. Lubrication remains the same as 63 except. Steering gear (check at every 36000 miles), Rear wheel bearings, (Lube for life feature), Crankcase Ventilation, (Check every 6000 miles or if plugged clear with a drill) Clutch Cross Shaft, at 36000 lube with EP lube, and with powerglide, if you are towing your cattle or hefty second half to the state auction, drain fluid, add 2 quarts of fresh fluid and for goodness sakes, park the vette under a tree and hydrate (not found in the 65 gm book) your wife then the herd. Here I go again! My 5 year old knows every corvette Hot Wheel in the cabinet, if you look up Lead East 2011, you will see him peddling (no electric bs wallmart crap) his 53 Corvette pedal car along with the parade. I am very aware of the Big Boys that own the "best" as sometimes they snob you. Back to the manual, sounds to me like they have a fine vehicle for the public! The 65 has eluded that hoard every 67 and build a few extras just in case market. Love your 65 people, it is the year the Corvette Molester is now thinking about but I have a call in to CNBC and they are thinking about a Vettaholic retreat where they will let you drive a 84 to Jiffy Lube, then upgrade you to a 80 whatever the dart hits over 84 which will spin you around like its 1999 where Prinz will hand you the Fob for a C6 and like Jimmy Cliff you will see clearly now. (Hi Jim) Ted

I don't think it's a matter of "only St. Louis body cars were able to accept side exhaust"...

I think it's a matter of planners thinking this would be a LOW volume option, there was enough mfgr capacity at St. Louis to handle the load, so why invest in TWO sets of production tools to support the option at both St. Louis and AO Smith? Production planners 'knew' the C2 was scheduled to be replaced with the C3 for 1967 (yes, that date slipped a year). So why 'waste' scarce tooling $$$$?
