    Washer Nozzle replacement

Guys, I am getting lazy (or maybe just not wanting to buy another specialty tool I will use once) and am wondering if you have to remove the wiper arm to get the grills off (or up) to replace the washer nozzles on a '66 coupe. It looks like there is enough room in the hole around the arm in the grill to get them off over the wiper. Anyone tried this? If worse comes to worse I will buy the tool to remove the wiper arm, just trying to be as simple as possible. Thanks. And another question, I understand the proper aiming of the squirt from the washer is 10 inches from the center line and 10 inches up from the bottom frame. Is that right?

the tools are readily avalable(NAPA) and almost certainly under ten bucks. if ya leave wiper arms on, i suspect ya may scratch the paint on the grills.mike

Yes, you're probably right. But there is only one NAPA within 100 miles of me and they said they have never heard of this part and don't carry "classic car" parts. I will have to order.

Any auto parts store can get the wiper arm removal/install tool for you - they're made by both K-D and Lisle, about six bucks.

The washer target is shown in your Assembly Manual, in UPC 1, sheet E3.

Thanks John, I keep forgeting to look in my assembly manual, need to remember that more often. I will try Checker/O'Reilly, they are the big dogs in my neighborhood.

I would tape the part where it contacts the wiper arm. I did on mine and it keeps scratches away.

I second that motion. It is VERY EASY to ruin the paint on those grills(don't ask me how I know). You want them to continue to match the paint on the hood, etc. So, I encourage you to tape over them (no duct/duck tape, though) before you get near them with any tool made of metal. BTW, make sure you bought the more expensive nozzles that have the orifices in tiny brass(?) balls so that they will actually adjust. My car came with the "El Cheapo" ones and I had to replace them (oops, I just gave you a hint why I know you should tape up the grills).
