    1966 427 a/c compessor brackets-need a photo

    Hi,
Anyone have some pics of 1966 only BB 427 air conditioning compressor mounting brackets? I understand they are unique to 1966? I think the difference may be the lowers only. Can anyone shed light on this?

    Hi Bill,
I have a the following brackets from a 1966 big block Corvette with the following CASTING numbers:
3887165 lower rear bracket that bolts to exhaust manifold
    3887166 lower front bracket
3872726 upper bracket that bolts to intake manifold-also the brace that bolts to this bracket.
The front bracket that bolts to the compressor(no casting #)
Send me your email and will send you some photos

            Re: 1966 427 a/c compessor brackets-need a photo

Pretty interesting, the front and rear lowers are the only ones different from the 67-up counterparts, although very similar, especially the rear one.
The front stamped steel one is identical the the one used on all 64-75 small blocks, including passenger cars, etc as far as I know. The top rear support bar type bracket and the cast one that bolts to the intake are the same as 67-up.It appears the front lower cast one from 66 only has an additional boss on it with a threaded hole that allows the use of the small block stamped one.

The 67-up front lower does not have that feature as its not needed with the new design stamped bracket for 67-up BB's.

Anybody know why this change was made? I wonder if it lowers the compressor location, remember, they made special valve covers for a short time also anticipating bracket clearance, turned out to be unneeded and eliminated. I seem to remember those appear around Nov 65 and are pretty much gone by Jan 66.

Another detail they were juggling on the 66 427 a/c design.

I wonder if the 66 BB lower two unique brackets are Corvette application only?

Wish I still had my 65 BB a/c SS Conv Impala, I could have looked

Thanks very much Page for making the effort to post these pics, now if I can only get you to release your grip on 'em!
