The car would not start. The distributor is good, just had it redone, magnetic pick-up is putting out what it needs to. The pink wire from the solenoid had about 9.5v coming out. The battery was going bad anyway so I replaced it.
When I put the new battery in I got a clunking noise out of the starter (that happened the very last time I tried to start it as well, I assumed the battery had finally worn down). I loosened the starter because I thought the bendix got stuck in the flywheel. Wiggled it around and tightened it back up. Turns over fine now. I still have only 9.5v coming out of the pink wire. I am told I need over 10v.
I also noticed the ground cable on the battery was getting pretty hot at the terminal after cranking the car a few times trying to start it, is that normal?
Could a bad starter solenoid be limiting the voltage from the pink wire? I found it interesting that the voltage was almost exactly the same with a new hotter battery as the older one. Any other thoughts?
Thank,
Larry
