Hi everyone I have a friends car that I am helping him out with. I noticed that the hood has the four mounts for the hood blocks that the mid to late 63 hoods have, has anyone else seen this Thanks Phil 8063

Re: 64 hood with a 63 base
Phil, yes this is semi-common. It usually occured with early 64's, but I have seen a Dec 63 car built with one. I don't know if it was changed with an earlier hood, but it looked like it was original. I have run across several early 64's with this.

Re: 64 hood with a 63 base
I'm about three weeks from pulling the body, so I haven't studied the springs yet. I'm ignorant of the differences between 63 and 64. Tell me what I should look for and I'll check.- Top

Re: 64 hood with a 63 base
'63 front springs were constant-rate, evenly wound (same gap between coils the full length of the spring in the free state). '63 rear spring had 9 leaves, all 9 were cambered.
'64 front springs were variable-rate, progressively wound (closer coil spacing at one end than the other in the free state). '64 rear spring had 9 leaves, but only the bottom six were cambered - the top three were flat.- Top

Re: 64 hood with a 63 base
The springs are still in the car with the body on, so it's difficult to tell, but the top three leaves of the rear spring are flat. On the front I'm not so sure. With the weight off the wheel it looks like there may be some progression in the coils but it is hard to judge. They'll be out of the frame next year.- Top
