    1967 Build dates

I own a 1967 427 Roadster that was built Nov 4th 1966 during the first full week of prodution after the strike. The body assembly date is the same as the day the car was produced.
I am looking at another '67 that the body was assembled on Dec 2nd 1966 & the car was built Dec 13th 1966. It seams like the two dates are too far apart, any ideas ??

    Dean -

Your car is probably a St. Louis body ("S" prefix on the "Body" number on the trim tag), and the other car probably has an A.O. Smith body ("A" prefix on the "Body" number on the trim tag); 50% of 67's had A.O. Smith bodies, built in Ionia, Michigan, and rail-shipped to St. Louis (which usually took a week or so).

OK, if it's a St. Louis body and the trim tag is stamped "E2" for the body build date, what's being used to determine the December 13th build date?

Which confirms the "approximate" nature of the data in the Birthday Book.

The trim tag with the body build date code (on St. Louis bodies) went on in the first station on the Hard Trim Line, and the body was locked in sequence from there to the end of the Final Line.

              Dean,

I was reviewing some old post and found yours, my car was built Tuesday Nov 7th 1966 VIN#194677S103199 it is a L79 Conv, your car appears to have been built Saturday, not sure if they worked weekends but could have, this is my 1st 67, do not know much about them, except it is an early car like yours, I would really like to know more about what I have, perhaps if have some time you can contact me

              Thanks

              Steve

                Hi Steve,

According to the Corvette Birthday Book (6th Edition, available from the NCRS bookstore), November 7th of 1966 was a Monday, and they estimate that the factory completed through VIN #03232 that day.

                  Thanks Scott,

I am trying to figure out why my conv has no stud holes on the rear deck, HT is missing the studs as well, perhaps the car was not born with a hard top, but the side bolt holes are there by your shoulders

Someone here will be able to help with the hard top subject, my only experience so far is with coupes

But now, with data from the new Shipping Data reports, NCRS should be able to nail those birthday book dates exactly.
