I just changed the oil in my 55 with the recommended 5 quarts of oil, and the level is about an inch above the full mark on the dip stick. I'm wondering if I may have the incorrect dip stick or the dip stick tube? Does anyone know what the length of the dip stick and the tube should be?

Fenwick, I think it is 4 qts for a '55, no oil filter. I checked the capacity of my 265 pan and 4 qts went right to the top. I have an original dipstick and it is right to the mark on 4 qts...

Dipstick from tip to metal cap / felt 20 3/16" tube from block to opening 6 1/4"

John, 55's don't have an oil filter. This is a one year only deal you might not be aware of.- Top
