59 Rear Bumper Clearance

What should the distance be between the body and the inside edge of the rear bumpers? It doesn't appear you can do much on the side because that is dictated by the pad between the body and the bumper. That measures approx. 1/2 inch on my car but should that measurement stay continuous around to the back of the car. If so, it looks like I have quite a bit of shimming to do. Possibly 3/8 inch on the left side for sure.

Bob that's probably one of the best questions I have seen posted on the forum in a long time. I think this will require an answer from a very experienced C1 person. Mine looks perfect until I ran around it with a steel ruler. It averages around 13mm (0.51181 of an inch) sorry I'm not real good on AF measuring.
Mine looks correct but it's slightly different all over. Lets see if someone comes in with real measurements ? Stewy

Thanks Stewy. I think the 1/2 inch clearance is going to be correct but would like a couple more opinions before I cut off the tail pipes. Sully

2 shims is the most i have ever used, at that point you are just rocking it back and forth, just get it to look close and call it a day, i worry more about getting it parallel to the ground, step back 15 feet and if it looks ok, your good,
