    1954 shift lever removal

What is the correct way to remove a 54 shift lever. With the cover off, the nut, that is holding the shift lever on, will not back off. It is turning with the threaded linkage.

Once you have the nut removed, it should pull right off, like Mike stated. Sometimes, the entire nut and stud come out together. Make sure you don't lose the spring if this happens.

Thanks guys. I just removed the nut with the stud. I was afraid that might cause a problem. I don't think it will be a problem replacing it that way. I am rechroming the shift lever.
