    1967 defroster cable W/ A/C

    I drove my 67 yesterday. I pulled the defroster knob out. The car has air conditioning. The cable let the knob come out about 2 to 2 1/2 inches. It pushed back in ok. I cant get to it now but I was wondering if this is correct as the air conditioning cable pulls out further. Later today I will measure both of them. Living in N.M. I dont think I have ever pulled the defroster knob( since 1971 or 72). Dale

    Hello Dale;
    Not sure what you are asking?
    Will compare '67 A/C cables to mine.

    Regards.

      Ray, How far does the defroster knob pull away from the dash when turning on the defroster. What is the length of its travel? Dale

        Dale, I think this is normal. Here's the two control cables you are talking about; A/C on (upper left of clock) and defrost (lower right). It's on my '65, but the cable part #s are the same '63-7, so unless the under-dash ducting has changed, the control travel should be the same.

        When fully out, my "defrost pull" measures 2.3" (from the face of the knob to the face of the fiberglass dash), and the "A/C pull" cable fully out is 2.8", or 1/2" more.

        But on non-air cars, the defrost comes out further than on C60-equipped, which may lead to the impression that something's not right. Also, my C60 defrost was very stiff, due to not enough use.

          Dale,

          I would assume the 1967 cables are the same as a 1965/66 Corvette with a/c. The defroster cable on my '65 only pulls out about 2+ inches, much less than the a/c cable. I just recently replaced the heater core so I became very familiar with what cable went were and how far they moved before and after the work was completed.

          Hope this helps,

          James West

            Hey Dale;
            The defroster knob/cable travel on '22684 is about 1"

            Regards.

              James, Wayne, those sound like my 67 defroster and A/C cables. I was afraid the defroster had stuck from non use when they did not pull the same. That is what happens if you only drive it 2000 miles in 38 years. I glad it is not stuck. Ray mine pulls about 2 to 2 1/4 inches, a little more than your cable. Thank you to all for responding. Dale
