The Trabant's basic body structure was steel, but all the outer panels were fiberglass, and the front suspension used a transverse leaf spring - sound familiar?

After the first minute of this clip (Wartburg 1000 ad), the last three minutes show the Trabant factory in Zwickau (now closed).
