Need Help w/ firewall harness clips

Went to start replacing my old beat up harness clips with new ones from Paragon on my 65 yesterday, and the Paragon kit clips do not seem to be correct. They furnish about 9 small clips in the kit, and 3 large ones for the tail light harness.

The original clips on the firewall mostly seem to be large (around 1") and maybe only 2 or 3 are small which came in the kit.

Does anyone know where to locate the correct clip set for the firewall??

    Robert,
I would attempt to contact the folks at Paragon and explain your dilemma. I think they may be able to get you the right amount of each of the sizes you need for your car.

      Robert,

unfortunatly you won't get all the right clips from any manufacture. Your best bet is to restore your originals (an easy process). Some of the clips they sell will pass for a few applications but thats it. If you want I can go into more detail as far as each clip/attaching rivet and rubber coating or lack there of. Or on how to restore them.

Rich, thanks for the input. The reason I decided to replace the clips is they are in really bad shape. I would apprciate any information you can share in locations of clips, restoring, etc. The AIM is not very helpful in nailing down the location of every clip either.

Bob -- are you sure you're checking all "clip" sections of the AIM ? UPC 11-13, sheet B5; UPC 12, Sht C3, A9, A11; UPC M20, Sht 4; and, if air conditioning or L78, UPC C60, Sht E2.

Anyway, if you are replacing existing clips, you should already know the type and location. If you need any specific info, I could take pictures.

            Rich,
I have a 67 with AC and I am contemplated restoring the original firewall J clips because the ones supplied by Paragon don't seem correct. Would you mind sharing the restoration process(clips, rivets, coating) which you mentioned in your November 9, 2009 posting.
            Thanks
            Neal

              Neal,

sure thing. It is a very simple process. The most important thing for you to do is tto make a map of the firewall and then mark each clip as it comes off also noting how it was installed and the size and type of rivet used to install the clip. Most clips have no rubber coating on them and just need blasting in a glass bead cabinet and a quick coat of clear or black paint (depending on how they were coatted originally).
The clips that have a rubber coating take an extra step to restore. You'll need to get a can of plastic dip (sold in hardware stores to recoat pliers ) the dip comes in a variety of colors ,red blue and black. You want the black. This may take a few tries to get just right but you will dip the clip into the plastic dip can, then let the clip dry and repeat the process till you have the desired build of plastic. Don't worry if you screw it up you can just strip tthe clip and start all over again.
