Several years ago I posted a similar post here and it started a commotion between the owner of a car I was looking at and some of the members who thought the car was overpriced. I need help again but do not want to insult anyone. I am looking at a 70 coupe 350-350. A lot of work was done to the car, no air, pwr steering, power brakes, tilt, 4 speed. He is asking $35,000. You cand email me @ c3vert@hotmail.com Thanks, as always I appreciate your help. Joe DeLuca Member37862

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Joe:
Since your information is brief, it's hard to put a value on a car like this. You say the car has had lots of work ?? Like a frame off, or basic "work" ??? You should be able to buy a total knockout 70 350 HP car for 35K. If the car has had a true correct restoration, or preservation with good documentation, it could be worth 35. That would be the upper end though.
This is just my opinion and only that. Would really like to see photos, and details to be able to really help you.Tom Hendricks

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Tom, New paint, a lot if suspension work, motor was not totaly done, carb ,heads, water pump, fuel pump, not frame off restored. Said he had 50,000 into the car. I did not want to be too explicit, I did not want to start a big commotion again. Thanks for your help- Top

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Warren, Is the car list anywhere where I could see it? I am on the East cost. I am not looking for a Top Flight, but I want something nice. I am
willing to spend a little more for a nicer car. 10 years ago I did a total restoration on a 61. I had to sell for financial reasons. Spent a lot of time and money. I turn 60 next month. I don't have a lot of time or money left. I just want to drive, not fix!!! Thanks for you help.- Top

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Joe:
I agree with Tom. $35k is at the top for a totally restored 70 with documentation.
I did a quick search of several of the used Corvette web sites with the limited information that you gave us and the prices for similar cars are around $24,000-$27,000, but without pictures and a detailed description it's hard to price the car you're looking at. I did not check Mecum's past auctions but that might help you price it too.
If in fact she has over $50k in it, it's her problem, not yours.

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Joe: I have owned a 1967 Corvette Coupe 350 HP, 4 speed and I now own a 1970 Corvette Coupe; I really like the 70; it runs strong and fast. My car has the close ratio four speed with PS, which does not use much HP and that is the way I like Corvettes. The 70 was the last year for muscle and the lowest production Corvette since 1962. The car you describe is a AT car with no options this car would have to be very nice to justify $35,000 at this time. However if the car suits you and your taste, go for it. Paint, chrome, engine and interior can cost big bucks nowadays so consider this when you are looking to buy any collector car.- Top

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Hi Joe,
In your third post you mentioned you "don't have a lot of time or money left". I'm thinking/hoping you still have a good number of years left, but may be right about the $.
I hope you find a nice car to enjoy!!!!!

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
Joe
I sold my 69 convertible about a year ago for $34,500. It was a very nice car and the same as you have described. I think I got top dollar for it. In todays economy I don't think I would get that. JMHO. Tom Stanton#41491- Top

Re: 70 Coupe, worth it?
I agree with the previous posters at $35,000 the car should be a top flight ready to roll car with loads of documentation. I have a 70 350/300 coupe and watch the market most cars as you describe are in the $15-20,000 range. At $35,000 it should need nothing as that is the top of the market unless it has some special history.- Top
