What should the Torque rating be on the flywheel bolts?

Just curious if anyone knows what the factory spec would be on the flywheel bolts?

I looked in the Assembly Manual, can't find it.

Maybe I would find this information in my 67 Chassis Service Manual?

any advice, help would be appreciated as always!
    Very Best,
    Jacob

Sorry, looks like I just found the answer from John Hinckley on an old thread... should have done a search first!

however, where what book would I find torque specs in?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

If you hadn't found John H's old thread, I would look in the Corvette Shop manual (pre-'66), or, for '66 (and probably '67) in the specifications sheets (Engine Torques) at the end of the Engine section 6 in the Chevy and Corvette Chassis Overhaul Manual.

      for 327's it's 55-65 ft.lbs on the 7/16 - 20 bolt.

      For 396 / 427's it's 65 ft.lbs on same size bolt.

The torque values mentioned are safe when using motor oil on the threads and underhead friction points. If moly lube is used, normally deduct 10 per-cent of the safe value when using motor oil.

If you are using special bolts such as ARP, then the manufacturer normally has their own values which are generally higher than the values you'll find published in the Shop manual, Clymer, Chilton, Motors, etc, etc.

You should also consider using threadlocker on flywheel and pressure plate bolts. If you do so, then use same torque values as you would if using motor oil as lubricant.

Also, I do not recommend the use of the external tooth star washers normally used for the flywheel bolts. Leave them out ENTIRELY. Use Locktite 242 on the threads of standard flywheel bolts.

Better yet, use ARP flywheel bolts and use the torque values they recommend.
