WHICH IS THE BEST AND EASIEST ELECTRONIC IGNITION CONVERSION FOR MY BIG BLOCK? DOES IT REALLY GIVE THE CAR AN EXTRA BOOST? DUTCH

In my opinion, the best system is the "Breakerless" system available through most of the major Corvette parts vendors.

Will it give the car an "extra boost"? I don't think so.

Be sure and put your points and condenser in the glove box. D/

        Harry,
Pertronix and M&H Electronic Fabricators (sold by Lectric Limited, and slightly cheaper by Wild Bill's Corvettes) make electronic ignitions. From what I've read, they're both good units. If you're looking for an original look, i.e., one wire leading out of the distributor, the M&H unit fits the bill. Pertronix uses two wires. I recently went with the M&H unit from Wild Bill in my '66 L36. I only have a few miles on it, but it seems to function well. Wild Bill was also a pleasure to deal with.
        Good luck!
        Jeff

Nope. The conversions just replace an electro-mechanical switch (the points) with an electronic switch; has no effect on secondary spark energy.

Harry-I think some of the answers kinda got off track of your original question. The K-66 design electro-magnetic trigger system is far superior with the 8 trigger points vs. the single with the aftermarkets--I my opinion. So, leave the distributor alone-it is durable and reliable as the day is long-far superior & reliable to conventional points.
Your question actually had to do with the amplifier. Again, in my opinion-the the original design is a great design and is the best. I have tried all the aftermarket modules and did not think much of any of them, especially the M&H (check out Corvette Restorer Summer 2008, Volume 35, Number 1-Randal Merzdorf had the same experience I did). The best of the aftermarkets is the latest version from the only Delco licensed approved repop manufacturer. I however, prefer and have used and sold several of the original boards repaired & up-dated with modern day silicon transistors (much less susceptible to heat & vibration) vs. the original germanium type. I find the original boards start much better and produce fewer fouled plugs. But hey, I have only been running the modified boards for about eight years with no problems. Contact me if you need a source for either of the boards I mention.

                Harry,

I installed a breakerless SE in my 67 distributor and in my opinion it's like driving with new points all the time. I have not logged many miles but the car runs very well and I am satisfied.

Wild Bill's Corvette, (Bill) is a nice fellow to deal with.
