70 front grille paint - (no, not a color question)

Masking off the egg crates on my 70 to paint. Do the vertical chrome strips get masked off top to bottom or is the bottom row chrome strips get painted? I've dug through the archives and some of the pics are hard to tell if that bottom row of squares have been painted all the way across. Thanks.

On the front grilles if you look closely you will see that each boxed square has a step ledge from the leading horizontal and vertical leading edge surfaces. All the surface top edges are chrome plated to the stepped edge. Only the square boxed insides are painted that argent silver at that stepped ledge inward.

I think I'm reiterating what Warren described... the bottom row of boxes has no chrome exposed on any edge or surface.

I was taping off the stepped ledges. So I read you right, I stop taping off the verticals when they hit the last horizontal row that makes the top of the bottom row of squares?
