    1962 300h.p. damper

    The crankshaft on my 300h.p. enters the crankshaft damper 1.185." The total bore length of the damper is approx. 2.350." I have the spacer ring #301020 from Corvette Central in front of the crank gear. Is the crankshaft in the damper far enough? Should this engine have the 7/16"x 2 5/16" bolt and thick washer holding the damper in place?

    I don't know what the insertion depth is on the balancer. However, what's important is that the balancer seat against the spacer.

    Usually, 300 hp applications do not have the crank snout bolt tapping. However, some may have had it. Also, someone may have previously drilled and tapped the snout for a bolt. If it's there, use it.

      Hi Joe, I installed the damper, and am sure it bottomed against the spacer. I think you are correct, because the cranshaft pulley and the water pump pulley align.
