Who put the Corvette Museum in Kentucky LOL. How can I mate up with route 66 heading to L.A. from Bowling Green Kentucky. I don't want to have to drive back to St Louis. Is it an easy run to Springfield it looks like around a 7 hour drive has anyone driven that route. Stewy

Re: What's the fastest route from Kentucky to LA
Stewy, Oklahoma seems to have the most of the original Route 66 available to drive. Tulsa to Oklahoma City's pretty much intact. West of Oklahoma City there's some Route 66 available as well. Do a search on Route 66, there were lots of good posts this last spring and last year from a Michael Andreeson (sp?) and his son who drove it all. You could also rent a Corvette from Hertz to make the drive in. Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

I've not driven from Bowling Green to Springfield, MO before but checking it out on Google maps and it routes you through St. Louis. It may look like you're backtracking north but it's all on Interstate highways. The direct route through the garden spots of Paducah, KY and Sikeston, MO is not on Interstates and will add about 2 hours to your drive.
The other benefit of going through St. Louis is you can stop at Ted Drewes for a frozen "concrete". And I gotta tell you the drive on the old road heading west of Rolla, MO is worth it. There are some really beautiful stretches of road.
I really love this part of the road. Give it a shot. You'll love it too!

Re: What's the fastest route from Kentucky to LA
I did another search on that area and I noticed I can run down to Nashville, Memphis to the kings house and across to Little Rock, Fort Smith and onto route 66 in Tulsa. That's about a 10 hour drive. Michael does that sound like a better run. Or will I miss a lot between Springfield and Tulsa if I go see the King of Rock in Memphis.
Steve you better have cold beer I drink like a fish I'm an Aussie LOL Stewy- Top

Dick Whittington sounds like he speaks from experience when he recommend the Route through Sikeston on Rte 60 so that may be quicker than going through St. Louis. It does miss some nice stretches of Rte66 but it sounds like you're going to have lots of opportunities for "side trips" and you'll need some time to recover from consuming mass quantities of our light-weight beer.
As for your thoughts on running through Memphis.... I can highly recommend the town. My wife and I spent a weekend there this summer. Seeing Graceland was a highlight, but don't pass up the opportunity to spend an evening listening to the Blues at BB King's club on Beale St in downtown Memphis. You can also visit Sun Records where people like Elvis, Johnny Cash and others made their early recordings. There's lots of things to do and see on just about any route you choose. You're going to have a hoot!
