Ok I will tell you. It's a Cadillac. Don't hold me to this but I think it's a 1912. So it has been the floor plan for the way we drive for nearly 100 years. Wow Stewy

The same year the Cadillac was first to employ what device that has become standard on almost all vehicles?

Cadillac was the first car to have the pedal layout as a modern day car has. From left to right clutch, brake and accelerator and gear shifter. Stewy

Correct, and Cadillac won the Dewar trophy for it. The second time. The first was in 1908 for interchangeable parts. The challenge was that three cars were completely dissasembled and reassembled from the jumbled parts. The cars were reassembled and run through a rigorous test including a grueling race and tour. Something that none of our reproduced parts could do today.
Now back to the Self Starter. The occasion that started the push for the self starter was when one of Henry Leland's good friends, and a plant employee, stopped to help a lady start her Cadillac. The starter kicked back and killed him. Leland was devastated and ordered the electric starter to be developed.

Now for the next quiz. Who founded the company that became Cadillac in 1902?

His financial backers did not want to make a cheap car for the masses and he left Cadillac to found FMC

Yes, Henry Ford was an Officer in the Detroit Motor Company, which failed and was reorganized as the Ford Motor Company, which Henry left after only three months. Henry Leland rescued the company and renamed it Cadillac.

Now question three. Henry Leland left Cadillac in 1917 after it became part of GM to form what new auto company?

                        Aint this fun.

Was it Lincoln ? Oh by the way I cheated on Wiki !! I didn't know the answer to that one. But hows his mate getting killed by a starting crank when the car backfired poor bugger. I think that would kind of hurt.
The Cadillac was an amazing car, and was actually regarded as a brilliant car around the globe not just in America. How things change. I would really love a 59 Coupe DeVille Caddy if it could fit in length in my garage (it's 200 mm to long). What happened to the magnificent car they made ?
Correct me if I'm wrong on this but were they first made in right hand drive in the early part of 1908 -1913 ? Stewy

There was no right or left hand standard in the early days of last century. Some cars were built each way, and some had the "tiller" in the middle. Bumpers and windshields (wind screen) were optional.

Take a look at Cadillac's newest offerings. The CTS series, particularly the 2010 CTS-V are some remarkable cars. They also have a new CTS Sport Wagon that looks promising. Cadillac has managed to reinvent themselves in the last five to ten years, even with all the garbage going on in the auto industry. I am not sure those models are available in OZ though Stew.
