I'm putting my restored dash cluster back in and have a question about the cluster lights. All of the lights with the gray wires have a silver matal housing for the bulb except one which is black at the end where the bulb inserts. Can someone tell me why this one is different and where it is to go? I should have taken better notes on this but can't remember which spot this one came from. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Re: 67 Instrument Panel Harness
Steve, The difference is because it does not get it's ground at the cluster buld socket like the other bulbs. The ground for this bulb is controlled by one of the switches, either emergency brake or headlamp warning etc.
I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me but the color of the wire compared to the diagram should lead you to the correct hole..- Top

Re: 67 Instrument Panel Harness
You said the socket your concerned about is black at the end. Is it a metal socket that is black or is it a black plastic socket ? If its a black plastic socket it will have to to have 2 wires going to it. The diagram shows 2 black plastic sockets, one is the headlamp warning light and will have a blue wire and a gray/black stripe wire. The 2nd is the parking brake light and its wire colors are pink and tan.Hope that helps.- Top

Re: 67 Instrument Panel Harness
Here's a trick I was taught to install the gauge cluster. Take 6" grade 8 bolts and rubber washers and let them do the hard work of holding the cluster in place for you while you lay under the dash hook everything up.
I was not smart enought to think of that. I was just taught this trick on the last car I was doing.

Re: 67 Instrument Panel Harness
Rich, I got that idea from a restorer article I found. I bought a 3 foot piece of 1/4"-20 threaded rod at NAPA and cut it into six pieces. I just wrapped some tape on the ends but like the idea of a rubber washer and nut. This has been very helpful in holding the cluster so I can take my time putting things back in.- Top

You might enjoy these - first one is cluster removal, second one is installation.
