    72 1114444 Solenoid

I purchased a NOS solenoid for my 72 BB Auto car and was just installing it and noticed the plunger when fully extended is about an 1/8 inch short of touching the arm of the carb. The bracket holding the solenoid appears to be the same as several that I have looked at of original setups for the same year. This has only been in pictures as there are no cars close to look at. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Sheldon

Previous Post should have read 71 BB car and solenoid.

Have you attempted to adjust the plunger?

No I have not. I wasn't sure if that was possible or not. any special way of adjusting it or just turn the plunger with a wrench?

Yes, the adjustment proceedure is given in your copy of the 1971 Chassis Service Manual, Section 6M, Engine Fuel, on page 9. The specs to use (CEC RPM vs. normal mechanical curb idle RPM) are listed by car/engine/carb in the 'Other Adjustments' table of the specifications at the rear of the book.

What's NOT covered is how you physically 'force' the CEC solenoid to fire so you can make the adjustment to the CEC solenoid plunger... Go to the Reversing Relay (firewall). Note there are physically two connectors attached, one with two wires and one with a single wire.

Momentarily un-plug the single wire connector and the CEC solenoid ought to fire allowing you to make the plunger length/RPM adjustment. More on troubleshooting the CEC is provided in my article on the system published in NCRS Restorer Magazine...
