Reba is correct and that is how you would see a partial on a OPS item. One item line items is all or nothing.

Interesting discussion.........what about an original GM clock that works but it has been converted to a quartz movement. I know the JM states a full deduction so why are other aspects of Ops not given a full deduction such as the radio which may have been converted to an electronic improvement? Or lets say, I had an Ipod jack installed on the backside of my original radio? Not trying to start an argument but the JM should spell out an Ipod jack, that is easily detected, such as the quartz clock. Just looking for a discussion, pros and cons.

At a chapter meet earlier this month the other 65 had a very nice bc/cc paint job but lost all his paint points because no attempt was made to make it look original. He says he plans to dull down the door jamps for the next time. You should look into this.

I had my 65 judges at the same meet.

If you really want to get top flight then you should download the judging sheets and go through your car. I wish I would have spent the time doing this and making sure I got all my ops points.

          Rick Smith,

since you mention iPod jack, if I was judging your car and I noted it would be a full deduct because now the entire radio is called into question - iPod jacks weren't around in the day - that is the entire reason for the quartz clock being full deduct - not around in the day - wrong movement

Your odds are good. I have a 65 base clear coat, aluminized exhaust, SS brake and fuel lines, service replacement carb (incorrect date ect.) that was a few points. I restored my car the way I wanted it. I didn't do a lot of the things GM did like messy glue on the doors and overyspray on the engine. I got a chapter top flight and then a national top flight without using driving points which was my objective. With 3% to spare. Yea you will take a hit for paint and SS items ect. but its not that bad if the rest of the car is done well.

              Rick Aleshire,

I appreciate your response. Any other judges out there that check the back of the radio for a Ipod jack? I also know that electronic ignitions are detectable but how many judges check for it? I have one but it was not detected nor deducted for Chapter flight judging. Should these obvious upgrades be mentioned in the JM to re-enforce that judges should check and deduct. Can any members think of other modern updates that conflict with the JM?

Re: What are the odds of winning Top Flight

                Rick,

as a Chapter judging chair I am happy that I get enough judges out to actually judge at a 3-4 car meet - we judge only Chapter member cars and thus depend on the Chapter members to judge - it is more a TEACHING and JUDGING meet than pure judging - the only way a Chapter can survive is to get new members / members who have never judged out to help judge

now, with your concerns about notes, as parts become more and more harder to find, and folks want to drive out older cars more, but want some of the niceties from the modern world - perhaps we do need to start making more notes - are the folks responsible for manual updates looking at threads like this? HOPE SO!
