1956 Undercoating Suggestions

Can someone suggest what material, and a source would be as close as possible to the correct to undercoat a '56? I have a friend who is restoring one and is looking for suggestions.

I hope it's to meet the JM under the fender 3M in a can is OK with me , before he does add glue a sheet of thin rubber under the front fenders then undercoat , safes little stars cracks in the paint if he ever plans to drive it.
