    ...and I still am.

I'm still waiting for a car that will make it to 50K miles without needing a water pump. The '63 Corvette, '72 Vega, '76 Cosworth Vega, and '88 MBZ 190E didn't make that goal. Next up is the '91 MR2 with 45K miles and counting. I sold the '81 Diesel Rabbit at 33K, so I don't know if its water pump made it to 50K.

The best feature of the Merc was its 48-month or 50K mile warranty because I needed every month and mile to get everything fixed.

I have 61K on the 1970 Corvette with original water pump. I guess I am on borrowed time.

I know about people who are still in school. I am supporting one; but she has a ways to go to catch you Duke.

My '59 (see above) went almost 100,000 miles in 12 years on the original water pump. All the gauges still worked too.

I retired it in 1971 because the car was worn out.

Interesting in the torsional and bending stiffness test results, after 531 miles, the windshield post tabs broke off.(page 31) Ironically I sent 2 out today for repair from a '59!

I always thought it was from pulling the soft top latches to tight on a shrunken soft top. Guess I was wrong.

            Rob:

Thanks for posting this link again. With the cold weather, I had a chance to read the whole thing.

I've never seen friction horsepower published before. Neat!

I'm surprised that the frame is not much stiffer in torsion than the open body. Flimsy!

The English call the rear sta. bar an anti-roll bar in 1961. Precision!

One glitch: It's not a recirculating ball steering gear, it's a worm and roller (same antiquity as kingpins!)
