just read on another discussion board that the Flying Dentist of SCCA fame , has passed away. anobody heard similar rumor? hope it isn't true. he was one hell of a c-1 driver in the 50's and 60's.mike

He was at the auction of some Corvette on TV within the last year. He was really getting up there.

But I hope he's still with us.

Don't think so. Wikipedia says he was born in 20 or 21, which would make him in his late 80s. Which is what he looked like when I last saw him.

Nice to hear this is NOT the case, but sure makes me think as an organazation we need to"take advantage" of every oppurtunity we can get to interact with these individuals from the early days, in any way possibly. I personaly really enjoy hearing their "stories", such as some of the ones I heard at the open ceromonies at the Bloomington "Hall of Fame" activities the last couple of years. I myself was not old enough to follow them in their prime, but I get immense enjoyment reading about, and hearing from them personally whenever the chance presents itself.

Agree! Wouldn't it be cool if we could interview these folks and capture it on DVD? We could send in questions and those being interviewed could prepare answers in advance so all of the details could be captured.

I can see it now.... NCRS presents.. "The way it REALLY was!"

Your post makes me think of some of the "nascar" shows I have seen on TV in the past where they have had a group of 15-20 old drivers and nascar guys, sit around and shoot the bull over old times. I have found some of those shows very entertaining, and it would be great to try something like this with as many of the "old timers" as we could get together in our hobby.

Your post makes me think of some of the "nascar" shows I have seen on TV in the past where they have had a group of 15-20 old drivers and nascar guys, sit around and shoot the bull over old times. I have found some of those shows very entertaining, and it would be great to try something like this with as many of the "old timers" as we could get together in our hobby.
