    72 Coupe markings questions

I have a qaunta kit for my car, my Question is are there any other marking on the car that may be judged that are not in the detailed in the kit that they produce.
I know that the headlight accuators are original to car and there are not any signs of markings so will leave as is,although they say red and green dots. a few other questions, is frame markings for the shim counts? tape on the front shims under the support brace ,
I know these kits are really not made for every car but alittle help form those of you that have judges cars and know of there markings that may not be in the judging manuel. thanks Ed.

Quanta has put together a kit to cover markings that have been observed on many cars. All cars did not receive the same marks, and there is no "formula" to replace them. I found marks on my car matched the kit's basic marks like shim quantities at the body mounts, but beyond that, it was hit or miss. To have used all of the marks they suggested would have been fantasy because they just didn't exist on my car.

My recommendation would be to replicate the marks you find, rather than what someone has observed on other cars. You may find you will require fewer, and cheaper materials if you buy only what you need for this task. Shim marks will require a green or white lumber crayon, etc. If my car was totally devoid of inspection marks from prior "restoration" activity, replicating a kit's suggestions might be acceptable to me, but basically, anything beyond shim marks would still be an "untruth" in my opinion. Somewhat like other dated components, once the originality is gone, it's gone; anything else is counterfeit in my opinion.

Chuck, how true on your last remark- I have a few marks that still exist on the car. its a hit or miss on the car true markings, each year is different, but you never know what the judges will look at, everyone seems to be alittle bit different, thats why im asking. if there is any consistency on my 72 I would like to hear from the board members. thanks

My observation is that the marks vary from one production year to the next, and may be similar within a given production year, but are more likely to be different from one car to the next, than the same.

It's been awhile since I judged chassis, but I suspect that most replicated inspection marks are not judged regardless of year. I don't remember any notation regarding inspection marks on the 70-72 judging sheets, but that could have changed. If not, then it's the uniqueness of the marks that prevent judging. Judges will look for the shim tape, the shim quantity marks if visible, that the frame stencil is in the proper location, driveshaft part number, and maybe a couple others all the cars have. Beyond that, I don't think chassis inspection marks are judged...but, I could be wrong. I'll bump you back to the top; maybe we'll both learn something.
